More Google Buzziness

by Mark Clayson

I keep talking about Google Buzz. I really think those good people should pay me for each mention. It’s the hot momma of the moment yet it is hard to know what all the fuss is about. Some people say it is ready to kill Twitter – if it aspires to do this then it needs more meat on the bones and, at this time, I shall continue with twitter – a platform I know and love (follow me on Twitter).

It is certainly being promoted prominently in the Gmail interface as the following welcome screenshot shows:

Other mentions are a little more modest, Buzz is mentioned in the Gmail menu and that is about it:

Small Mention in the Gmail Menu

The one advantage is the building of Buzz as a part of the Gmail architecture. This makes the need for add-on applications much less necessary. Photos, emails, videos and audios can be shared without the need for any external applications or influences. And of course it will be kind to Mobiles.

Buzz is in beta at the moment but Google wouldn’t spend so much money on the idea if there were not an ulterior plan. Twitter destruction seems unlikely but competition there IS for sure.
