It appears that many (?most) journalists use social media to research their stories. This includes Twitter and Facebook according to The Guardian.
This clearly starts to put things into perspective and, at last, helps to drive home the notion that these platforms are more than just a frippery designed to deviate us from real-world issues.
Far from using the likes of Twitter to pass pleasantries, it seems it is a valuable and important source of news, views and exclusives. Certainly some 55% of journalists are classing these media as of some importance. A large proportion are turning to Wikipedia for research – an who wouldn’t, considering it must be at least 10 times more relevant and up to date than traditional bound tomes of knowledge?
There is clearly a way to go and the most important aspect in all of this is that the sources are not easily verifiable for accuracy or validity.
