Heidi Cohen believes that the plight of the Olympians (dedication and hard work etc) can be usefully used as an indication of how we should approach the use of social media. She rightly points out that those who use it effectively are committed and disciplined in their work
Heidi gives nine “insights” to guide your social media program
- Have long-term goals
- Put in sufficient practice time
- Get strong support from home
- Listen to your coach
- Marshal training and coaching resources
- Have a team behind you
- Learn from past mistakes
- Perform in public
- Track progress to improve your performance
I agree. But this also applies to almost every sphere that we wish to be successful in. Most of us have to work for our success – even those of us that do not aspire to Olympic glory. It is only the very privileged few that can coast effortlessly.
Much of what I do takes me time and a good deal of effort. Sacrifices have to be made somewhere along the line. Outsourcing simple tasks can help – but composing things like this post or important reports, need personal judgements and the industry.
Have a look around at successful blogs and websites. You will quickly see the efforts that are invested. We are not all Olympians but many of us are in serious training.
