Social Media Helps Recession-Hit Businesses

by Mark Clayson on March 1, 2010

Can you think of a way to help people in a recession? One way is to offer a discount or special offer. That is pretty obvious – but how is best to get that offer across? Tradiitonal advertizing techniques can costa  lot of money and it appears that firms are shying away from the big buck promotions. But there is a relatively cheap way …

… social media

Coolhaus have done just this. They offer ice cream sandwiches and have utilized social media to promote their wares – check out their site to get a flavor (no pun intended) of this – http://www.eatcoolhaus.com/

Now, we all know (don’t we?) that social media is a viral platform. So, think about the following:

- offer a discount for people that visit your site (you can make it time limited or range limited)

- offer a discount if two or more people come to your business after seeing the site

- play a game – get customers to quote a word or phrase when they visit you to get their discount

People love this sort of interaction and will want to share the experience and tell their friends via social media (as well as other avenues)
